Snapshots from the TV

These were snapshots taken from friend's phones while we were on TV. So cool!

Baby Lack-Update 4

Week 21-Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like he's practicing martial arts as his initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to his activity as you get to know him better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now.
I am definitely able to feel Baby Lack kick and sometimes I can even see it. Chris has been able to feel the kicks too. The movement seems to happen when I'm relaxing on the couch or right before bed. Sometimes if I tap back, it will kick back.

Week 20-Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Week 19-Your baby's sensory development is exploding! His brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that he may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. His arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now. His kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on his skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.
Chris has started singing to the baby now and has brought his guitar down from the mountains to start playing songs. I'm sure Baby Lack will do a little dance.

Week 18-Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

The long wait...

Waiting for over a week to share the news of what Baby Lack will be, was so hard but we enjoyed having a little secret just to ourselves! We had such a fun time anticipating the reveal and of course reading all the sweet messages on facebook and the texts we received all within just a few minutes of the show airing. I've attached a picture from that morning. Don't you love the tiger paw? Chris had that idea.

What do you think?

I was so excited Chris was off this weekend. We were busy running errands on Saturday and then had a family reunion on Sunday. In between our errands we ran into BRU just to glance real quick at car seats and strollers. We found our favorite car seat. What do you think?
If you know of anyone that has this car seat and loves it/hates it, please share your comments. and YES, it is orange! Would you have thought any different? :)

Happy Father's Day

Me and Dad at the Clemson/Citadel game 2009
Today was a great day with Dad. My parents came up from Columbia to spend the day. We all (minus Chris) went to California Dreaming. I think this is becoming a yearly tradition. After lunch Mom and Dad came back to our house for some banana pudding, naps and to watch the baseball games. Unfortunately the game was on a rain delay. Yes, I'm talking about the S.Carolina vs. Oklahoma game. What? You didn't know we were Oklahoma fans? Today we are! :)
It was a great day with my sweet dad...the man that has such a heart to serve and love others.
Happy Father's Day!

Baby Lack-Update 3

On Thursday, we had the ultrasound to find out what we are having. The Baby Lack (BL) looks healthy and was pretty active. We were able to see it's precious feet and hands, arms and legs, a frontal view of the face, the spine and a healthy heart. Praise God!
We have been really pleased with the new OB practice that we switched to. This practice is a little bit smaller than the other one (4 doctors vs. 8) and it's much, much closer to the house (within 1.5 miles). I really had been anxious the entire week, not necessarily about finding out the sex, but more so finding out if the baby was growing healthy. I'm sure most pregnant moms experience these concerns, but the ultrasound is the true confirmation that things look good. On Thursday, I got home a little before the appointment and Chris was sleeping since he is currently on night shift. I decided to lay on the sofa for a minute to say a prayer for Baby Lack (and my anxiety) and fell asleep. What in the world was I thinking? There has never been a time in my life that I haven't fallen asleep even within a few seconds of laying down on the sofa. Next thing I knew, Chris was waking me up just minutes before our appointment. Whew-good thing it's so close! Anyway, we made it about 5 minutes late. How could we have gone to NY and not known. ;)
BL currently weighs 10oz. and so far I have gained 4lbs., although that actually feels more like 10. I wore some black maternity pants for the first time this week to work and it felt so nice! I look forward to the weekends much more than before because I can wear a comfortable cotton skirt and be totally comfortable instead of trying to squeeze into my suits, although the belly band has been a big help.

On a side note: Thanks to the friends that tuned into the Today show on Saturday to look for us, but we will be on the 26th.

Baby Lack-Update 2

Week 17-Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Week 18-Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. The big reveal

As mentioned earlier, we are planning to go to a taping of the Today Show while we are in NY. We arrive in NYC on Thursday. We are planning to the avoid the entire Rockefeller area on Friday morning because of the concert series that the Today Show hosts. Watch for us on Saturday morning, June 26th. Will we be wearing pink or blue? Yep, that's how we will make our big announcement! I just bought our pink and blue shirts today (with a 90 day return policy for the one we don't wear). Pray for a healthy ultrasound on the 17th and good weather on the 26th. We hope we can keep our little secret for 9 days, but we did do good keeping baby Lack a secert all the way to 12 weeks.

Any early predictions?

Have you ever heard of the Chinese Birth Chart? I just heard about it this weekend at church and thought I would take a look. Based off of the mothers age at conception and the month the baby was conceived, then it will predict what you are having. Guess what it said...GIRL!

Since my pregnancy has been so smooth-no morning sickness, no nausea, just a little tired, most people have predicted a boy. We can't wait to find out. June 17th is the big day (assuming Chris doesn't get scheduled for work and we need to reschedule.)

Anyone want to make an early prediction?

Baby Lack-Update 1

Week 15-Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

Week 16-Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

These are updates that I get once a week from babycenter.com It really is so fun to get these every Wednesday as a reminder that there really is a little miracle growing in my belly. Chris will tell you, I am so ready to start showing. Did anyone else have that feeling? I know I shouldn't rush this time, but I'm almost 17 weeks and am still wearing my normal clothes. I do have a little tightness in my pants, but I'm ready to be obviously pregnant! Ha, I'm sure there are some people that think I'm crazy. Maybe I'll be showing by our NYC trip.

Our little getaway

In 24 days we are off to NYC! Please share any specific things we HAVE to do. We will be there Thursday-Monday so we don't want to miss out on anything. Chris has never been and I have only been once. We travel so well together and I can't wait to see the city with my husband.
These are a few things we want to do:
Central Park
See a Broadway Play
take a double decker bus tour
Staten Island Ferry
Statue of Liberty
Grand Central Terminal
Empire State Building or Rockefeller Plaza Observation Deck "Top of the Rock"
Chinatown
Tiffany's
Ground Zero
Financial District
Mets game
and...The Today Show--stay tuned for more details about this stop on the tour :)
OK, so that's a ton, but I think we can do it. What I need now is suggestions to eat pizza, cheesecake, deli sandwiches, and any other yummy spots. Food will be a top concern with this pregnant lady and a husband that can eat his weight in food (and not gain a pound!). So jealous!

Free Sweet

June 4th is National Doughnut Day...who knew? If you have a Krispy Kreme near you, swing in for an afternoon snack

"On National Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme is encouraging everyone to stop by for a free doughnut," says Ron Rupocinski, corporate chef of Krispy Kreme. "While my preferred indulgence is the signature Original Glazed(R) doughnut, we are inviting our guests to select their favorite doughnut. Make life a little sweeter by visiting your local Krispy Kreme store with your friends and family."

Dunkin Donuts is also participating, but I think most southerns would agree that nothing compares to Krispy Kreme.

Major Savings

I did lots of shopping this weekend. What else is a girl to do when her husband is working? :)
Many of you know that I am a coupon nerd and I also love helping others with my little hobby so let me know if you ever want to get together for a quick lesson.
I was so excited about my savings this weekend that I set up the items I bought at each store and took a picture. Unfortunately our camera right now is nowhere to be found so these pics were snapped with my phone. If you scored some great deals this weekend, please share!

RITE AID, Total Spent= 0.00 (made .76), Saved=50.50 (The Right Guard deodorant was actually from Publix, but since I got them both for free I wanted to include them in a picture. Once I got home, I found a .50/2 coupon for Snickers that I could have used. Oh well, I still consider this trip the most successful one this weekend. 21 items!)

TARGET, Total Spent=3.99, Saved=1.50 (The Purex was free thanks to a "try me free" tag. Normally I don't get crescent rolls at Target but I needed them for the pigs-in-a-blanket we were having for dinner.)

WALGREENS, Total Spent=4.22, Saved=27.50 (The four detergents only added up to .72!, the 2-liters were 1.25 each, but we were totally out of my favorite drink! )

BI-LO, Total Spent=9.01, Saved=42.00 (Way more bags of potato chips than we would normally buy, but they were on sale and my 4 Baked Lays coupons that doubled expired today. And...yes, that is 11 boxes of facial tissue in the back which will be donated)

CVS, Total Spent=.57, Saved=33.18 (This deal turned out better than expected. I had a $4off/$20 purchase, $2 off Revlon product and $1 off body wash...all CVS coupons. Add manufactures coupons on top of that and call it a win-win!)

ALL OF THE ABOVE FOR LESS THAN...

$18!!

(My husband is a happy man!)

1 year anniversary celebration

365 days flew by! On January 31st, we celebrated being Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Lack for 1 year. Our first year really has been true bliss. There is no doubt in our mind that we were created for each other to be husband and wife and to glorify God through our union. We are so excited about all the fun things that are yet to come but make the most of every day together.
Dinner on our wedding night was a Domino's pizza and wedding cake. We heard the food at the wedding was fabulous, but we were so busy visiting, dancing and celebrating that we didn't get a bite. Once we made it to the hotel room, we were starving. Chris called for pizza and Domino's could get it to us the quickest. We decided to start a tradition of eating Domino's on our anniversary (a very budget friendly option!) I will say that the new recipe for Domino's you have seen advertised on TV really is good. Also, mom did a great job of wrapping up the top tier of our cake. It was so delicious and as moist as could be.
The traditional first year wedding anniversary gift is paper (click HERE for a complete list). Chris gave me the book above with a sweet note in it that said, "...but above all, no matter where we go, the best part is that I have you going with me." As we make travel plans and see the sights in this book, we are going to take a picture to insert in the book. I think it will be so fun to not only create the memories, but look back many years from now when the book is wrinkled and the pictures are yellowed to reflect on our adventures. I'm sure there will many self portraits. I think Chris has mastered that area of photography. haha
I gave Chris the print of Clemson. It is actually more of an architectural drawing of some spots around Clemson with one of them being Tillman Hall, the place we met and later were engaged at.

Thank you to all of you that have encouraged us, prayed for us, celebrated with us, and guided us on this amazing path of husband and wife. It doesn't get any better than this!

Snow comes to town

I thought moving to the upstate years ago would be a definite way to see more snow. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen as much as I thought it may. Although this year has been different! This weekend we have some beautiful snow. The kind that is perfect for snowball fights and rolling up into a big, fat snowman. With no kids to play in the snow with, we had to entertain ourselves. Here is how two grown adults had fun on Friday night... Evidence that my husband did attempt to throw a snowball at me :)
(Yes, the big white ball in the middle of the picture is headed right for the camera)

Our two snow angels. I'm on the left, Chris is on the right.

The little things keep us entertained. haha

We really needed some neighborhood kids to play with!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Why am I updating the blog on Valentine's? Well, this is what is going on in our house tonight. Chris has a super-duper big test in the morning so he is busy concentrating on his study materials. Since I am trying to keep things in the house quiet, updating the blog seemed like the perfect task to keep me busy.

Don't worry, we still celebrated V-day with a home cooked steak dinner and carrot cake for dessert. Cupid came to visit and brought Chris a pair of LLBean boots and me...well, I get to go pick out my own gift. Cupid really wanted to get me a watch, but wasn't sure which one I would like. I hope you all had a weekend full of love!
