Our family has now grown by two feet! Corban has arrived and we thank God everyday for our precious, healthy little boy. Thank you for visiting and joining us on our adventure as we learn about parenthood and how to raise a Godly man.

To make things easier...

I know we have all planned to take a meal to a friend or family member that has just brought home a new baby. Have you ever heard of MealBaby? Me neither...until tonight. The parents can list the food alleries, likes/dislikes, and you can see what days are available without bugging the new parents at home by calling their phone. You can attach the home address and even get directions right to the front door.

Just something to make your life easier if you are the one planning this process for someone.

Isn't it gorgeous!

I saw this picture online of a living room and I LOVE IT!! Can't you just imagine coming over to visit and Chris is making dinner and I'm relaxing on the couch?!? Really, he would prefer to be cooking. Ahhh, life is good.

Christmas Photo Cards

Yep, it's thetime to start thinking about Christmas cards. I love receiving photo cards from all friends near and far. Actually, I don't just enjoy them during the Christmas season but throughout the year. Chris can tell you that they stay on our fridge until the new ones arrive . They all warm my heart and remind me everyday just how blessed we are with such great friends. If you are looking for a creative card this year, check out www.tamagrams.com. She is a friend of mine from church. You may have remembered me using her specially designed wedding note cards earlier in the year :) and now she has a line of Christmas photo cards. Check 'em out!

Trunk-or-Treat

Lego Land
Tonight our church in Grennville hosted Trunk-or-Treat. IT is always lots of fun and I enjoy seeing how creative each group is. This year, our community group went with a "Lego Land" theme. The kids loved it and the costumes were low budget. Attached are some pictures from tonight. Chris was at work so unfortunately he wasn't able to participate in the fun.

Congrats to Ann & Lawrence

This is the grooms cake my mom had made for Lawrence. The picture of the State and the red SC flag was the logo for the wedding.
The wedding on Saturday was beautiful. I was reminded just how photogenic my brother is. Every picture of him is just perfect! His bride, Ann did such a good job of taking care of the small details. She looked stunning in her gorgeous dress...and it even had a bow on the back. It couldn't have fit her better!

Apple Picking

On Sunday Chris and I went with our small group from church to an apple orchard. My favorite apple is a Pink Lady. Dispite the fact that the Pink Ladies were not ready for picking (according the dry erase board), we did so anyway. We sampled them, against orchard rules and they tasted just delicious! We did get a small bag of Granny Smith apples for me to attempt to make a pie. I'll be sure to post pictures next week if that happens. Stay tuned.

Help those that protect you

Some of you may have seen my facebook update the other day. I was on the hunt for someone who knew how I could get my expired coupons in the hands of someone that could use them. Weeks ago I had heard about a program in which you could mail your expired coupons to families on a military base to use at the commissary, which honors them up to 3 months after the expiration date. Well, I was able to find a lady that has put together a program called Coupons for Troops, ironically enough! :) I have included a link HERE if you are interested in mailing coupons to other families to help them save some money. She will email the name of a family and their address. As we know, every little bit goes a long way.

Dancing in the Rain

Well, it wasn't exactly dancing. Actually it was cheering in the rain. Yes, we were at the Clemson game and stayed the entire time. Thankfully we were prepared with rain suites so we really didn't get wet, but what a yucky feeling! Everything on your body just feels moist. Chris' hands were so wet that at one point when he was doing the "O-N" his ring flew off and bounced down 4 or 5 rows of bleachers. Thank goodness I didn't know why he had made a mad dash down a few rows. He did find it and all was good. At first I thought he was going down to tell some punk-like teenagers to behave. Although he was just getting his ring, he did manage to address the un-chaperoned teenagers at the end of the game when one thought it was a good idea to toss a full coke bottle. Chris made sure he knew in just enough words that what he did wasn't a good idea. Yeah for Chris! So many people would have just watched and then mumbled some words under their breath, but Chris handled it very well.
I took a picture of us on my new blackberry that I will try to post. Having a new blackberry is another post for another day. Let's just say, you don't have to worry about me being one of those friends that can't put it away. I don't even get it out...I can't even use it!

We are going to MD this weekend for the football game with some friends from Greenville. Chris and I have never flown together or gone out of town with another couple. I know we will have fun and I'm just so thankful how laid-back my husband is about traveling. I don't have to worry about him ruffling any feathers or being hard-headed about doing something. At some point we have all traveled with someone like that and it takes the relaxation out of the vacation.

I am looking forward to cooler weather! You?

Free (cont.)

Last night I went to get a sandwich at a nameless sub shop :) for dinner. I treated myself out for dinner since I had eaten lunch at the house. The story is that I ran in to get my sub, the guy made a HUGE sub and then...he asked me if I had cash. Cash? I never carry cash anymore. It turns out there credit card machine wasn't working and I went home with a free sub.
You may be thinking that is so cheap of me, but I promise I wouldn't have ordered the sub if I knew I had to have cash and the employee assured me he wouldn't get in trouble. After I apologized numerous times, I finally left with the free sub. At this point, it's a few minutes before 9pm, and they were closing the doors behind me or I would have run to the bank.

I definitely enjoyed it!

Free Ride

FREE: Did you know that if you complete the survey at the bottom of your Bi-lo receipt, you will be taken to a link to print a coupon for a free Bi-lo recyclable bag? Not only do you have a chance to win $250, but you can get a free bag and Bi-lo will refund you .05cents on every visit when you use your bag. These are great to use when making trips into the grocery store. I didn't realize how many plastic bags we accumulate until we started recycling them. They really add up!
RIDE: Chris will get off of work at 6am Monday morning from working this weekend. He will then ride with his mom up to VA to pick up a few little things that are still at the house, sign paperwork for closing, and then hit the road back to SC. Please pray for safe travels and strength for him to get through the day after having been up since 5pm Sunday night when he went into work. It will be a looooooong day for him. I do have a little stash of snacks for them to take.

Also...Happy Birthday to Ann, the future sister-in-law!! We hope you had a great day and a fun weekend.

Quick Update

Does anyone else think it's time for me to post? I'm sorry it's been forever. Here is a quick summary of our life in 5 short sentences. :)

1. We received an offer on the house.
2. Inspection and appraisal is this week. Until both of those are both done, we aren't celebrating.
3. Work has me busy, busy, busy.
4. We are sooooo ready for football season. I'm already thinking about some good recipes to try.
5. I have scored some major bargains this week! Whoohoo!

OK, that's really 7 sentences. Cross your fingers things go smoothly with the house. We are looking forward to only having 1 mortgage.

Lawrence's wedding is less than two months away. October will be here before we know it and I'm so excited about fall decorations, cute sweaters, colorful scarfs, and of course time with family.

Have a great week!

My favorite things

What are two of my favorite things?? Yes, besides Chris and Clemson...well, have you guessed?
FREE & CHOCOLATE! That doesn't come as a surprise to most of you :)

Every Friday, Mars is giving away 250,000 free pieces of chocolate HERE. I already got mine today. The certificate for your free chocolate does take six weeks, but it's worth it for me. I'll grab a cold diet coke and enjoy my free chocolate right about the beginning of October. And maybe I'll share it with Chris while we are enjoying a Clemson football game! That sounds like a great plan.

(Dad, I already registered for you today too. Love ya)

6 months ago tonight...

Can you tell I was excited?
...we were counting down the hours until it was time to say "I do." I really couldn't believe that January 31st was almost here. The place that we had the dinner at was decorated so nicely by my moms sweet friends. There was such a glow that night and we were so thankful for the time they spent setting up the facility. Earlier that afternoon, my mom and I had gone by to get things ready, but were told that things were under control and we could leave. There wasn't anything we could do. Ahhh...what nice words to hear when you have a million things running through your head: pick up grooms cake, bring gifts for honorary bridesmaids, bring gifts for groomsmen, pack groom/bride Tervis Tumblers (gift from mom), shower, get dressed, get to church for rehearsal in time, etc.
The actual rehearsal at the church went smoothly and shortly after that we were on our way downtown for dinner. The site was very quaint and was filled with our closest family and friends. The dinner was delicious and just what we had in mind, a casual dinner with not much fuss. Fried turkey and marinated pork was served with green bean casserole, seasoned potatoes and pasta salad. Chris and I requested a peach cobbler with ice cream too. A warm treat on a cold night. After dinner, Chris cut into the grooms cake which I had picked out for him. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and a BIG Clemson football helmet on it. I ordered it from a bakery in Columbia. Hmmm...I wish I had a big slice right now.
A few toasts were made by my brother, my dad, and the matron of honor. There weren't any groomsmen that wanted to speak (which I'm a little thankful for because I was warned in advice there may be some embarrassing stories). Chris and I created a "soundtrack" of Us. Some of the songs were upbeat, dancing songs and others were slow, sappy love songs. Chris created the cutest cover for our personalized CD's. We also had tons of candy there which was initially purchased for a "candy bar" we were going to have at the reception. As the wedding got closer, we decided the "candy bar" was a little overdone and nixed that idea.
The night was just an enjoyable event for the two of us. I think I shed a few tears, but that is to be expected, right? Once we said our goodbyes and sweet words, we parted ways with plans to meet at the alter the next night at 6pm to begin our Forever!
The grooms cake. Yummy!Kristie, the best Matron of Honor ever!!the table of goodiesCan you read it? So creative, but not our idea. I wish we could take claim to it. :)
When my dad said a toast, this is what everyone toasted with.
Amy & Chris started with a Clemson orange crush.

For those that read this and don't know us too well, I'll give you a brief summary:

Chris and I met at Clemson in 1996. He had a crush on me. :)

12 years later, it's the night before our wedding!

My dad giving the toast. He did a great job!

Did I toss & turn all night long? Absolutely not!

This is a picture that mom snapped shortly after coming home from the dinner.

Did anyone try the sandwich for the coupon I posted below? I gave out two coupons and received low ranking from both people. I guess it just looks better than it tastes. oh well.

FREE FREE FREE

Has anyone taken advantage of the free book bag offer this week? We did! Can't beat a free $50 book bag to take on trips. Speaking of trips, Chris and I are headed to VA this weekend to check on the house. We are meeting with a new realtor so cross your fingers that this guy can get the job done. THIS HOUSE MUST SELL SOON! I will update the blog when we get back with news from the trip. This is also our "6 month anniversary" trip too so a getaway from the house is also planned. Yippee!!

Fun on the 4th

Each 4th of July, The Nichols family (my mom's, mom's side of the family) has a reunion on Lake Murray in Saluda. My family been going to this reunion since I can remember. In fact, it may be a 30+ year tradition. Anyway, there are usually a ton of people there, although I don't know most of their names, but we have fun catching up and eating some delicious food. When I was a child, my brother and I would take our bathing suits and swim in the late UNTIL one year someone saw a snake. I don't think my brother and I ever got in the water again. It still gives me chills.
The night before, a couple of men get the hash ready and continue to stir it into the night. The hash is prepared in big iron pots that were used to wash clothes over 70 years ago. Unfortunately, Chris hasn't been able to attend the reunion with me. 2007: we hadn't "re-met" yet. 2008: engaged, but had other plans. 2009: Chris was working. I know he wishes he could come. I hate attached some pictures below of my family and the infamous hash.
My grandmama and me
An uncle preparing the "to-go" containers of hash that can be frozen and enjoyed all year
Another tradition: homemade ice cream

Whatever your plans are and wherever you may be, we hope that you enjoy the holiday!

Recent Deals

Today I bought a pair of Danskos for $31.50 (& a 2nd pair for a friend).
Yesterday we paid $20 for a $45 sushi dinner.
3 days ago, we ate dinner in downtown Greenville for $30 instead of $55.**

I used to find it offensive if I was referred to as cheap...not anymore. I'll continue to save our money for a rainy day. Call me what you wish.

**for those that live in Greenville, I now have a $25 credit at Devereaux downtown. Let me know if you want it. That restaurant isn't really our taste.

Another shot

I just got the call this morning from the doctor that my blood work came back fine (yeah!!), but that I am not immune to Rubella. Lovely!
Guess what that means? Another shot on Wednesday. Ouch!
And I read that some people will always be immune, even if they do get a immunization shot which means they will continuously get shots throughout their life.
I am thankful that everything is good...cholesterol and thyroid.

Nugget Night

Chris was hungry last night, really hungry. He suggested The Lube for all-you-can-eat wings. I suggested CFA all-you-can-eat nugget night. Much cheaper.

For those that live outside of the Greenville area, Chic-fil-a hosts an A.Y.C.E. nugget night on a different week night at different locations. Initially you are served 12 nuggets, 1 large fry order & 1 large drink. $8.99

Throughout the dinner, an employee will come around an re-fill your nugget box until you have had A.Y.C.E. As nice as she could say when refilling Chris' box for the 4th time, "honey, you sure can put some nuggets away AND you aren't even a fat man."

Somebody else recognized the fact that my husband has a serious appetite. He does a good job of burning it off though.

I ate a kids meal and will probably be trying to burn that off for 3 weeks. Not fair!

Monday, June 22, 2009

I woke up this morning in a good mood.

I had a doctors appointment.

I had a shot in one arm and blood drawn from another.

I left the doctors office in a bad mood.

I'm ready to take a relaxing bath and maybe watch "Jon & Kate" in 30 minutes. Not sure that will help me feel better.

Maybe some ice cream will! :)

Friday Night

Friday night is our date night. When I got home from work we decided to go to Moe's. I really think Chris could eat there every other day. It helps that I have 6 BOGO coupons there. At dinner we talked about going by Bi-Lo and renting a movie from Red Box, which is probably one of the best ideas I've seen recently. $1 for 1 movie for 1 night. Great!
At Bi-Lo, we didn't see a movie that was available that we wanted to watch but Chris did decide that he wanted to get some Blue Bell Grooms Cake flavored ice cream. Over the past few weeks we have tried to find this each time we go grocery shopping with no luck.
First stop, Bi-Lo. No luck.
Next stop, Bloom. No luck.
Next stop, Wal-mart. Bingo! They only had 1 gallon of it left. Chris hid it behind the supply of vanilla so we could go pick out a $5 movie and not have to rush due to the melting ice cream.
He picked out a movie...I picked out a piece of furniture.
So, after spending over $100 dollars at Wal-mart, we were headed home with the ice cream and a desk. Oh What A Night!

For your information: the ice cream was very delicious and well worth a 3 store hunt for it.

My latest project

Most of you know that I love anything monogrammed. Heck, my closest friends hosted a monogram themed wedding shower for me last August. I do think some people can take it a little too far, but whatever makes you happy, right? I especially love monogramming anything now with our new couples monogram. Chris doesn't get as excited about monogramming everything in our home as I do. I don't understand why (wink, wink).

Check out the 2 pictures below of my newest monogrammed item at the Lack home. The stickers came in today and I couldn't wait to put them on the rocking chairs. One was a gift from Chris' parents for Christmas (thank you!!) and one we bought with gift cards we received as wedding gifts. Chris has been on night shift this week and I'm so excited to see him tomorrow night when I get home from work. I think that he will smile when he pulls up to the house and sees my new design. What do you think?

And yes, this is our couples monogram AND my personal monogram too. We were meant to be!

Free Tea

Everyone that is a true southerner loves sweet tea! It has a ton of sugar, but a nice cold glass of sweet tea is now considered a special treat. McAlister's Deli is offering a free sweet tea to everyone on July 23. I'll do my best to remind you closer to the date, but enjoy a nice tall glass of good sweet tea and remember me! :)

Yuk!

Can someone with the health department PLEASE visit my gym? They have been out of paper towels for over a week and every time I go, they give us a new excuse: they are at the Laurens Rd. location, they are coming in tomorrow, my manager said to tell people that we are out (duh!), we don't have a way of getting them to this location. Seriously, you are a business. Make it happen! Walk across the street to Wal-mart. Last time I was there, they had plenty of paper towels.

Imagine person after person using the same treadmill and not being able to wipe their sweat off of the machine. I'm grossed out.

This is also the same gym that has now changed their hours because they "can't find anyone to work the night shift" at a 24 hour gym. Unemployment in SC is at 11%. Try another excuse on me because I'm not believing that one. This gym also closed one of their Greenville locations unexpectedly and without warming to their members.

Warning to all: Stay away from Peak Fitness in Greenville. N-A-S-T-Y!

Awkward

I went to Babies "R" Us today to pick up a shower gift and overheard this conversation.

Employee: Have fun registering and congratulations on your pregnancy.
Customer: Oh, it ain't me...it's her (as she points to her teenage daughter)
Employee: silence
Customer: walked off

Ummm...don't you think that if you don't know, then just just keep your mouth zipped. I would have thought that would be lesson #1 on your first day of employment.

Spend the night party

BAXTER...such a stud!

Last weekend, my mom was in town and Chris was home for the night. Call it a spend-the-night party if you want, but we had another guest come over too...Baxter. Baxter is an English Bulldog owned by our sweet friends, Jennifer & Stewart. They were going out of town for the weekend and now that we love spoiling Baxter with lots of attention. Check out these adorable pictures:

Too funny not to post!

the birds have left their nest

I'm sorry I have taken so long to post the pictures of the birds. They are all grown up and have left the nest. The nest is now occupied by some fresh moth balls because the birds are no longer welcome in our ferns. Now we still have one more nest with eggs in it. Once those have hatched then that nest is coming down too. Please don't think that we don't love animals, but they just make a mess and they weigh down the flowers which causes the hanging baskets to break. There are plenty of beautiful trees that they could call home.

Clemson Baseball

We are SUPER excited that CLEMSON BASEBALL is headed to the NCAA College World Series SUPER Regionals. Did you watch the game? Oh man...Clemson always does a good job of getting me all nervous, especially when they have 3 errors in 1 inning. I was starting to get nervous, but am so glad they pulled it off in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Do coaches ever suggest to players to watch their language, especially when they are on TV? I have never played a Division I sport, actually I have never played any type of sport :) so I'm not sure how coaches handle that situation. I read lips because I'm hard of hearing, but I'm willing to bet that most people can still read what those players are saying even if you haven't mastered the talent of lip reading, like myself. There were some pretty dirty words dropped tonight on the field, and mostly by the Oklahoma State coach himself. Kind of tacky...and trashy!

These are the new hats we picked out downtown.

AFB

Yesterday was day 10...again...and time to make another batch of the Amish Friendship Bread. So Yummy! I looked up a couple of variations and found what looks to be a delicious Lemon Poppy Seed version. I think we will try that one in 10 days. Chris wanted one more batch of the cinnamon/sugar one.
Last weekend when my mom was in town, I sent her home to Columbia with a starter bag. For those that know my mom, you know that she isn't much into baking. She really wasn't thrilled with the idea of having to "mash" the bag and "feed" it for close to 9 days. BUT...I heard from her last night after it came out of the oven and she said it was so good. Actually she said that her batch was better than mine! Go MOM! Enjoy.

Alabama is coming to town again

HipHipHooray!! Clemson is hosting a regional tournament this weekend. Anybody up for a trip to Tigertown? Chris and I are entertaining the idea of going on Saturday. Gooooooo Tigers!!

Perfect combo

I was at Publix this weekend and saw the greatest thing. With the purchase of a 12 pack of Diet Coke (which is a staple in the Lack household), you received a coupon for $2 off the purchase of a fresh flower bouquet. Diet Coke & Fresh Flowers...that would totally score some major points for Chris!

Happy Memorial Day!

First, THANK YOU to those that serve or have served this wonderful country. Thank you for the sacrifices you make for our freedom.

What did we do today? Let's just say that Chris and I are STILL in our pajamas from this morning. We have uploaded wedding pictures (5 hours worth!), played Phase 10, taken a nap, watched the race, cooked dinner, played more Phase 10, ate sherbet/ice cream, etc. It was definitely a much needed day of rest of Chris. He has worked the past 5 weekends. Next weekend he is off. HipHipHooray!

Did anyone watch the season premier of John & Kate Plus 8? It was uncomfortable to watch. I will say that I have probably only watched 5 episodes ever. Definitely a waste of my time, but I'm not promising that I won't watch the second show. It makes me definitely appreciate the peace and quiet we have and am reminded of the fact that I can turn off the TV and not have to hear the never-ending screaming and crying. But, those kids are so darn cute!

An update on the house in the mountains: As most of you know, Chris typically stays in a garage/barn up at his parents property in the mountains when he is working. As mentioned before, there are very few luxuries up there. Well, construction on the house has begun with an estimated completion date in the middle of July! Yeah!! Chris said that the basement is complete, most of the rooms have been framed off and the shingles are up on the roof. I know he will be thrilled to be staying in a house with a full kitchen instead of a plug in stove and a inside bathroom. I'm so excited for him and excited that I will now be able to stay with him. There is just something about his current living situation that doesn't seem to be my idea of out-of-town accommodations. :) I think it might be the black bear he says is in the area.

We are in print again!

Attention all Clemson fans that read the blog...Have you received the Orange & White for this week? There is a picture of us from the wedding with the Clemson Tiger. I had emailed them two pictures. One of me, Chris and the Tiger and also the picture taken of all of the Clemson alumni in attendance. I think they probably picked the one of just us because the alumni picture had so many people in it that it was hard to see everybody.
Also, have you seen the Columbia magazine? Our photographer submitted our picture for that as well. There are a couple of other Irmo couples that you might recognize also.

Our parents don't get the O&W, so please let us know if we can get a copy from you for them.

Amish Friendship bread

It's that time again. 10 days later. It did involve a quick trip to Bi-Lo in the middle of the making because I wasn't as completely prepared as I thought. Thankfully Chris continued to mix up the ingredients while I ran to the store to get 2 boxes of vanilla pudding...along with tuna steaks, ice cream, brownie mix, and milk. What female can run into the grocery store and only get the 1 item they need?

Oh yeah, I'll get Chris to take a picture of the baby birds tomorrow to post.

MMMM...it smells so good.

How cute!

I just came across a website that makes the cutest cookies. I really about flipped when I saw this one. How cute! Just perfect for a kid's birthday party or just for fun although they are listed at a hefty price tag of $4/cookie. Oh, if only I could create adorable cookies myself.

The babies are born

Obviously my camera isn't the best, but here are a few pictures of the baby birds in my ferns.
I'll try to take another picture tomorrow. I want to make sure that I don't get too close to the nest while trying to take a picture or the mother bird might now come back.

The plan for tonight was to turn off the TV at 8pm. We could go on a walk, read, or play UNO...

...I won best out of 3 games!!

Chris ate 32 wings tonight at an all-you-can-eat wings dinner. UHHH...

That's all I have to say about that!

Strawberry pickin'

BEFORE
AFTER

We were told we could eat as many as we wanted while we were picking. They were delicious and we are still enjoying them. Blackberry picking is in June. I don't think that I have every had a blackberry before, but I started liking raspberries. Do you know if they taste similar? Chris likes blackberries. Maybe I can find a good cobbler recipe and we can go pickin' again!

Ahhh...the delicious smell

I wish you could all be here to smell the house. Chris and I cooked one of our bags of the Amish Friendship Bread (AFB) and the house smells of warm cinnamon and sugar. I wish that the 10th day would have been yesterday so my parents could have sampled it.

If you want one of the starter bags of AFB, let me know. I'll do my best to get it to you. I come to Columbia once a week and Augusta once every other week.
